Verizon outage

(Meredith) -- Verizon has confirmed a service outage is preventing users on the East Coast from sending or receiving text messages.

The carrier's official Twitter account for customer support replied to a tweet saying, "We have confirmed there is a texting outage on the east coast. Our technicians a fully aware we have a ton of customers that are being effected, and we're working non-stop to get this matter resolved as soon as possible. *IXR 1/3."

According to downdetector.com, a website showing consumer-reported outages, Verizon customers in nearly every major city along the East Coast from Boston, Mass. to Miami, Fla. are dealing with a lapse in service.

Most reports say the outage only affects text messages, and many users say they are still able to make phone calls.
