Drugstore Chain Walgreens

(Meredith) – Walgreens announced that it will be closing 200 stores in the United States as it reduces its store count in the U.K., the company said on Tuesday.

According to CNBC, the closing of 200 stores is less than 3 percent of its 10,000 separate locations across the country.

In a release, Walgreens stated that it expects “minimal disruption to customers and patients” and said it plans to retain “the majority” of its employees.

By cutting back on the number of locations, the company hopes to save about $1.5 billion by 2022.
