Toddler shot in the face released from hospital after 2 months of recovery
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA/Gray News) - A toddler who was shot in the head while sleeping was released from the hospital on Friday.
The toddler spent two months recovering in the hospital.
Authorities are still looking for the shooter.
“It has been a process. A long process,” Kersheta Ross said.
Ross said her son Kash was sleeping in bed next to her when they woke up to gunfire right outside their apartment.
“Around 1:00 in the morning, that’s when I heard gunshots and that’s what woke me up,” Ross said. “But what scared me the most was Kash’s cry and his screaming.”
Ross said the bullet traveled through Kash’s head, barely missing his brain.
He was rushed to the hospital, underwent surgery and spent two months in the hospital.
Ross said emotions were high when Kash was released from the hospital on Friday.
“Some of the nurses were crying,” Ross said. “Kash had made so many friends at the hospital during the time he spent there.”
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said he believes the shooting was gang-related, but so far, no one has been arrested.
As the investigation continues, Ross said the most important thing to her is that Kash is home.
“If they get caught, you know, they get caught,” she said. “You can’t hide forever. They’re just going to have to deal with God.”
Kash has one more surgery, and a GoFundMe was created to help his family with medical expenses.
