1 child dead, 2 others hospitalized after being abducted from their home

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - A 16-month-old child at the center of a Virginia Amber Alert died after a crash in Maryland on Thursday.

The two other children suffered serious injuries but are expected to survive.

On Wednesday, just before 9 p.m., Virginia Beach Police were called to a reported stabbing where officers found the children’s mother and a female child suffering from stab wounds.

Virginia Beach Police said Dana Demetrius Plummer, 36, stabbed the victims before abducting 7-year-old Zayin Plummer, 5-year-old Zayir Plummer and 16-month-old Za’riyah Plummer.

Thursday morning, Maryland State Police tried to stop Plummer in the vehicle he was in with the children.

“The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued north on I-495 into Maryland, where the driver lost control and crashed near Exit 7,” Virginia State Police said.

Plummer was arrested and the children were rushed to the hospital.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of parental abduction, four counts of contributing to delinquency of a minor and domestic assault.

The stabbing victims are in stable condition.
