7-day-old boy killed by family dog, authorities say
MARKLE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) - Indiana authorities say a newborn baby was killed by a family dog on Thursday.
The Huntington County Coroner’s Office identified the boy who died as 7-day-old Jason Weaver.
First responders said they were called to a home on North Miller Street Thursday evening for reports of a dog bite. They arrived to find the baby already in critical condition.
Despite life-saving efforts, the infant died while being taken to a Fort Wayne hospital.
The coroner’s office identified the dog involved as a 5-year-old husky/pit bull mix. Authorities noted that “no law enforcement reported instances of aggression” with the animal.
The county coroner’s office extended its deepest sympathies to the Weaver family upon the identification of the boy.
The situation remains under investigation by multiple agencies.
