‘We just want answers’: Owners of missing cat believe he jumped into Amazon delivery van
HENRICO, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - The owner of a cat in Virginia said he has been missing since an Amazon delivery van pulled up to her home with the doors open.
Rebecca Myer believes her cat, Twitch, jumped into the van at some point while it was stopped. However, she said she cannot get an answer about the situation from the company.
“We’re not blaming anybody, really. I just want answers as to where he could have jumped out at,” Myer said.
Myer lives on a lot of land in Sandston by the woods.
She said her driveway is about a quarter of a mile long. As an animal lover, she said she takes in all kinds of pets, including cats, and helps raise them in a safe home.
Twitch is a little over 1 year old. Myer said she rescued him along with his two siblings and their mother, and all of the felines have become a loving part of her family.
“His left ear is clipped. He has an all black tail with a white tip,” Myer said. “He walks with a little head tilt, so we named him Twitch. He had an ear infection when he was a baby.”
Myer described Twitch as a fearless feline who loves people. She said he will run down the driveway to get the mail and jump into her car. However, she said he sometimes gets too curious when delivery drivers come to her house.
Myer said Twitch went missing in July, shortly after an Amazon delivery was dropped off at her house.
He was found about two hours later, 6 miles away, and dropped off at an animal shelter.
Myer said she saw the Amazon van driving with its doors down then and believes Twitch jumped into it when it stopped. She said she thinks this is how he got so far in a short amount of time.
“We’re surrounded by woods. We live on a dead-end street,” Myer said. “I mean, that’s pretty far away to go in two hours if you’re not hopping a ride on an Amazon van.”
Myer said she has left specific instructions for delivery drivers since then. These include dropped packages off at the end of her driveway, about 1,000 feet from her door and closer to her mailbox.
She said she also has a table where packages can be placed and she tries to be home during drop-off times. She also asks drivers to keep their doors closed when they come up to her home.
While Myer was reunited with Twitch in July, she said it is a different story this most recent time.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, Myer said she had a delivery made, and the driver ignored her instructions and went up the driveway to the front of her house, where her animals are.
After that, she said she could not find Twitch.
“They came up to the house, and the van door was wide open. We have video of the van door, and the cat that did this before is now missing again, ” she said.
Myer said she is not blaming the driver or Amazon for her cat’s disappearance, but does want their help in finding him.
“I’ve sent emails, phone calls, I’m not blaming them, I just want to know if he was in the van, they can definitely pull video. Every van of theirs has a video,” she said. “We just want to know where he went, where he jumped out at. Did he jump out around here?”
Amazon has been communicating with Myer, but has not provided her with the video she is requesting or a response from the driver.
She said she has been met with suggestions that include keeping her cats inside or selecting a different location for package drop-offs.
When contacted for comment, Amazon said an investigation has been opened.
“I just want them to respond with that they reviewed the video and they have an idea of where he could be, or maybe he’s not even on there. So, we just want answers from them, and time is very sensitive since it’s Thursday and it happened on Sunday,” Myer said.
Myer says the situation is stressful for her and her kids, as Twitch is a part of their family. She is asking people in the community to watch for him, too.
Anyone who believes they may have seen Twitch is asked to send an email to helpfindtwitch@yahoo.com.
Myer said if Twitch is found, she will put a GPS collar on him moving forward.
