Community is asking for help to name the infamous ‘drunk raccoon’
ASHLAND, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) – A community in Virginia is asking for help from the public to name the drunken raccoon that went viral last month for being found passed out in a bathroom.
The Downtown Ashland Association is looking to name Ashland’s unofficial mascot.
The “Trashed Panda” came in through the ceiling of a local ABC Store on Black Friday weekend for a quick night cap before ending up passed out in the bathroom.
The act got him into the international spotlight.
The Trashed Panda phenomenon has already inspired an outpouring of creativity and generosity.
Community-led fundraising efforts, powered by drunk raccoon merchandise, have raised over $200,000 for Hanover County Animal Protection & Shelter.
However, the infamous raccoon doesn’t even have a name.
“Neighbors have affectionately called him everything from the ABC Bandit to the Rascally Raccoon,” the Downtown Ashland Association said in a statement. “But a legend of this magnitude deserves more than a nickname shouted across social media.”
Ashland residents and raccoon enthusiasts everywhere can put their two cents in at ashlandvirginia.com, where they can submit their name ideas.
Submissions are now open, and the winner will get a $50 gift certificate to the Arc of Hanover Thrift Store as well as the honor of having their chosen name announced as downtown Ashland’s selected name for its unofficial mascot.
