New enhancements are improving the Michigan fishing experience

Saginaw, Mich. (WNEM) – The inland Walleye, Northern Pike and Trout season is coming up soon and new tools for checking regulations in Michigan have been created to help simplify this year’s fishing experience.
Starting Saturday, April 25 the lower peninsula’s fishing season will begin and The Department of Natural Resources has a new interactive Inland Trout and Salmon Regulations map. This new tool can be used to help find the fishing regulations for the area you plan to visit. Anglers can also use the Michigan DNR Hunt Fish app to purchase licenses, report harvests, and access all hunting and fishing updates.
Anglers who plan to visit the upper Peninsula to fish, the Walleye and Northern Pike Possession seasons opens Friday, May 15. Michigan’s muskellunge possession season on all Great Lakes, inland waters, the St. Mary’s River, Lake St. Clair, St. Clair and Detroit rivers opens Saturday, June 6. New fishing license season started April 1 and ensuring you have your license is important before hitting the waters.
Catch and Immediate release for several Michigan fish include muskellunge, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and this is open year-round for almost all waters unless the area is closed to fishing. The possession season for bass opens statewide Saturday, May 23, except for on Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair River and the Detroit River, which open Saturday, June 20.
