UPDATE: Suspect named in Marquette shooting that led to fiery Negaunee crash
NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Police Department has released the name of the 31-year-old Marquette man facing several charges that stem from a shooting in Marquette Tuesday.
Trevor Caponcello Restivo is being lodged at Marquette County Jail on 10 counts relating to Tuesday’s incident.
The charges are:
- 2 counts of assault with intent to murder
- 1 count of weapons - firearms - discharge in or at a building causing serious impairment
- 1 count of weapons - firearms - discharge at or in a building causing injury
- 4 counts of weapons felony firearm
- 1 count of interfering with electronic communications causing injury or death
- 1 count of police officer - fleeing - second degree
Police say that at approximately 9:14 p.m. on Tuesday, the MPD responded to 616 W. Baraga Ave for a 911 call that was reporting a disturbance between multiple subjects.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a 33-year-old male victim with apparent gunshot wounds inside of the apartment. A second male victim, 68, was also located in the apartment with minor injuries.
The victims identified Restivo as an occupant of the apartment where the incident took place and that he had fled the scene in a vehicle owned by one of the victims.
A “be on the lookout” was issued by police and the vehicle was seen by a Michigan State Police trooper on US-41 in Negaunee. Police say the vehicle then fled from the trooper in the westbound lane.
Police chased Restivo until the vehicle left the south side of the highway and struck diesel pumps at the Krist gas station which started a large fire. Restivo then exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.
Restivo was also transported to the hospital, where he remained until Thursday
The 33-year-old victim was transported to the UPHS-Marquette where he remains hospitalized in stable condition. The 68-year-old victim was treated and released from UPHS-Marquette.
“Ultimately, we responded and observed a couple of victims inside the residence. The suspect had already fled in a vehicle, and he was picked up by MSP heading towards Negaunee, and then, of course, he crashed at those gas pumps there. It was an isolated incident; all the parties did know each other, and there is no further danger to the public from this,” Marquette Police Chief Ryan Grim said.
Grim also said he appreciates the inter-agency cooperation.
“These kind of events, shootings and what not, don’t happen very often within our jurisdiction, really anywhere in Marquette County, and the positive part of this whole thing is we all worked together, it was just really nice to see how everybody came together, we all train together for incidents like this, they don’t happen that often and it’s just nice to see that they are ready when they do happen,” Grim added.
Revisto is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
