FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) — The City of Flint is awarding $500,000 in opioid settlement funding to Insight Health System to support the expansion of its specialized Medical Psychiatric Hospital.

The funds will help support the next phase of the project, expanding the facility from 19 operational medical-psychiatric inpatient beds to 70 licensed beds.

“This investment reflects our commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through treatment, recovery, and long term support for individuals and families impacted by addiction,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “These funds are being directed toward services that will save lives and strengthens behavioral healthcare access in Flint.”

The facility provides inpatient psychiatric stabilization, substance use disorder treatment, medication-assisted treatment, therapy services and coordinated recovery planning for patients with complex behavioral health and medical needs.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley will present the funding during a press conference on Monday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m.
