ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WNEM) - Week two of OTAs is underway for the Lions as they continue offseason training, with players getting back in football shape and the coaches learning more about their team.

“It’s the minutes, it’s the mental, it’s the process and speed. Doesn’t mean the finish and violence that will come,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “Can this player learn from that mistake? That will have a bearing on us going into training camp because that will set the chart a little bit of how we begin, pads, and letting these guys go.”

One of the key changes from this offseason is the addition of Drew Petzing as the offensive coordinator, and in his first couple of weeks working with the players on the field, he likes the weapons that he has.

“You have some vets in this room that have played a lot of football that I can lean on to coach some things and to say hey, you’ve done this at a very high level, Saint, Penei, even Jamo and Gibby, hey you guys do great things, how do you think about this? How do you coach this? Hear that in front of the room. Let other guys learn from your experience, and I think they have done a great job of embracing that and trying to make the players around them better,” said Petzing.

One group on the offense that has several new faces this season is the offensive line. Penei Sewell is looking to lead this group and help move the ball.

“The standards the same and I’m the one that’s kind of been here the longest in the room, so it’s up to me to really show the guys not just telling them because that is most important, you got to come out here each and every day because nobody is going to follow you if you’re not really doing your stuff,” said Sewell.

Dan Campbell started the press conference today with some bad news as rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law is out for the season with a torn ACL he suffered in Tuesday’s practice.

The Lions will have one more week of OTA before the mandatory Minicamp in Mid-June.
