Saginaw man sentenced in 2003 cold-case killing

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) — A Saginaw man has been sentenced in the 2003 cold-case murder of a woman whose body was found in the Flint River.

On Monday, June 15, Jason Cabello was sentenced to between 23 and 45 years in prison, according to court records.

Cabello was charged in the murder of Jeanette Wilton on Dec. 10, 2024. The Michigan Department of Attorney General said the case was reopened in 2021 with advanced DNA technology, which resulted in Cabello’s connection.

Cabello pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct in April. He was also required to register as a sex offender.
