WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche is hoping to make the job permanent, but first, he needs the green light from the Senate.

Monday, Todd Blanche is appealing to the oldest of the ranks... Senator Chuck Grassley, Republican of Iowa.

Grassley gave Blanche a warm welcome, signaling his support for the nomination, however not everyone is convinced. The Iowa senator chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Many Democrats are concerned about the conflict of interest by appointing President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer to be the nation’s top prosecutor.

They worry he will use the office to target President Trump’s political enemies, as already has been seen with investigations against James Comey and Cassidy Hutchinson.

The handling of the Epstein files is another sore spot for Blanche in the appointment process.

The House Oversight Committee is calling a hearing next month with Blanche in the hot seat.

Committee chair James Comer (R-Ky.) says they have a lot of questions to ask before that confirmation happens. The House doesn’t have voting power over nominations for cabinet positions.

Confirmation hearings are expected after the 4th of july recess
