Ojibway Island reopens after months of upgrades and repairs
SAGINAW, Mich. — Ojibway Island is officially back open. The city held a reopening ceremony Friday morning with city leaders and residents following months of upgrades and repairs to the park.
Saginaw Mayor Brenda Moore said the city is planning to expand programming at the site.
“We’re looking at some concerts, we’re looking at family gatherings, we’re looking at stuff to utilize our park,” Moore said. “But just stay tuned — I keep telling everyone we’re going to make this a city to be reckoned with.”
Ahead of the reopening, the city released a statement noting reported vandalism at Ojibway Island, including graffiti painted on rocks and other objects, as well as a contractor’s equipment that had windows broken out. Security cameras have been installed at the park but are not yet operational.
