Woman wins $50K Powerball prize with fortune cookie numbers
HENRICO, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - Numbers on a fortune cookie helped a Virginia woman win a $50,000 Powerball prize.
Tierra Barley bought a ticket at Varina Superstore Supermarket, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Barley almost made an expensive mistake when she left the ticket in the store while she went to take her daughter to the park.
“She returned to find someone else in the process of buying Powerball tickets,” Virginia Lottery said.
However, that person actually helped to return her ticket.
Barley’s ticket from the May 8 drawing matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number.
All Virginia Lottery profits go towards K-12 education in the commonwealth.
Last fiscal year, Henrico County Public Schools received more than $30.7 million.
