GRAND BLANC, Mich. (WNEM) - A mid-Michigan woman is still recovering after a Christmas morning fire.

The Grand Blanc City Fire Department said crews were called to the Perry Place Apartments just after 5 a.m. Christmas Day.

Off camera, some of the people living in Building 11 said they woke up to flashing lights and half a dozen fire trucks outside their windows. One person said they lost some of their belongings, including pictures, due to the damage.

One woman is in the hospital and several families were forced to evacuate Christmas morning after a fire at the Perry Place Apartments in Grand Blanc.

According to the fire chief, Grand Blanc City firefighters responded to a call at the complex located near Perry and Belsay roads around 5:15 a.m.

Police and fire crews found smoke coming from the door of one of the units, and a 66-year-old woman was unresponsive inside.

The fire chief said she was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters put out the flames within 21 minutes.

The fire department has not said how many units were impacted or if anyone is displaced, but on Wednesday afternoon, TV5 crews saw restoration workers cleaning out damage and several people went into their apartments in Building 11.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire chief said no one else was injured. The Grand Blanc Township Fire Department was also called for mutual aid.
