Mother and daughter killed after car goes off road and overturns into pond, police say
KING WILLIAM, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) – A mother in Virginia and her 4-year-old daughter died after their car overturned into a pond, according to officials.
Virginia State Police said officers responded to a single-vehicle crash Monday, Jan. 6 off Etna Mills Road in King Williams County around 1:20 p.m.
Officials said a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 33-year-old Kayeley Elizabeth Williams, went off the road before overturning into the pond.
According to police, Williams and her 4-year-old daughter Maddie were found in the vehicle wearing their seatbelts, with the child properly restrained in a car seat.
Both Williams and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
WTVR spoke with Williams’ sister Leah, who said the mother and daughter were inseparable.
“Maddie was so free-spirited, wide open, and wanted everyone to know she was there,” she said. “Truly one of a kind, sent to us from heaven.”
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
Anyone driving during severe weather conditions are urged to stay vigilant while on the road, police said as a reminder.
