(InvestigateTV) — When they should have been making plans to bring their daughter home, the parents of a newborn in Virginia were facing a harsh and devastating reality.
Doctors diagnosed their baby, Kylie, with a rare genetic disease called “Surfactant B Deficiency,” a condition that occurs in just one in 1 million newborns worldwide.
Surfactant B deficiency causes abnormalities in the lining of the lung tissues, making breathing difficult.
The life expectancy without a lung transplant is about three to five months.
In Kylie’s case, doctors feared she wouldn’t live long enough to have a transplant.
Reporter Sarah Chakales shows us how Kylie defied the odds.
