ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WNEM) - It was a day of celebration here in Ann Arbor.

The University of Michigan honored the 2026 Men’s Basketball National Championship Team.

The party started on State Street as Michigan fans flooded the street to show love to the Wolverines at their National Championship Parade.

The Atmosphere was electric with fans getting the chance to see the champs in person and some managed to pick up some autographs as well.

This parade was 37 years in the making, and it’s a moment these fans were not going to miss.

Then the party moved inside of Crisler as the Wolverines brought out the hardware from this season and the Michigan faithful recognized this historic team.

Not only that, but Athletic Director Warde Manuel had a big announcement.

“Dusty and I have already reached an agreement,“ said Warde at the podium. ”He will be the leader of this basketball team for many years to come.”

Finally, the grand finale saw that 1989 banner get a new friend as the 2026 National Championship banner was lifted high above the Crisler Center.

The players and coaches worked all season long to get to experience this celebration and they couldn’t be more grateful for this moment.

“It’s a really cool experience you know putting up three banners,” said Flint’s own Trey McKenney. “For this school, I mean I grew up watching all their stuff, but I mean I would’ve never dreamed of this but dreams do come true. I hope I’m just shining a light on a lot of little kids that hope they can do this one day and they really can.”
