State police say 83-year-old sped away after attempted traffic stop, died in crash
ARENAC COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) — A deadly crash after troopers attempted to make a traffic stop is under investigation.
Michigan State Police said at about 3:30 p.m. on May 28 troopers tried to stop a 2021 Jeep on M-76 near Kuehn Road for speeding and improper lane use. However, the Jeep accelerated and left at a high rate of speed. Troopers did not pursue.
Soon after, dust was observed clouding the area ahead of the troopers. MSP said the Jeep ran off the roadway, struck trees and caught fire.
MSP said troopers attempted life-saving measures, but the driver, an 83-year-old Sterling woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
