NWS Confirms 2 Tornadoes in Saginaw County on Tuesday Night.
SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Two tornadoes have now been confirmed in Saginaw County from the severe weather that occurred late Tuesday night, damaging homes and farm buildings across the area. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported from either storm.
Albee Township EF-1 Tornado
The first tornado touched down at 11:53 p.m. EDT on April 14 in a field near West Birch Run Road and Amman Road on the northwest side of Albee Township. It continued northeast for just five minutes before lifting at 11:58 p.m. near Fosters, according to the National Weather Service damage survey.
Widespread Damage Along Bishop Road
The most significant damage occurred along a half-mile stretch of Bishop Road near Alicia Road, where the tornado reached its peak strength with EF-1 winds estimated at 105 mph.
The damage included:
- Multiple pine and hardwood trees snapped and uprooted
- Two outbuildings completely destroyed
- Several empty silos destroyed
- Three homes with roof damage
- One home with the majority of its roof blown off and garage walls blown outward
Path of Destruction
The tornado first produced weaker EF-0 damage near West Birch Run Road, where two rows of pine trees were uprooted and siding was torn from an outbuilding. As it moved northeast toward Fergus Road and Gasper Road, more trees were uprooted before the strongest damage occurred on Bishop Road.
The tornado continued east, producing additional EF-0 damage to an outbuilding northeast of Alicia Road and Horning Cut Road before lifting into a field. The tornado traveled nearly 4 miles with a maximum path width of 880 yards.
Bridgeport EF-0 Tornado
The second Tornado was rated EF-0. This tornado touched down at 12:06 a.m. EDT on April 15 near Roedel Road and South Reimer Road, just northwest of Bridgeport. This tornado was much shorter-lived, lifting at 12:08 a.m. in a field south of Roedel Road between South Reimer Road and Maple Road.
Farm Buildings Damaged
The EF-0 tornado, with peak winds estimated at 80 mph, caused damage along a short half-mile path:
- Two barns damaged with majority of roofing lost
- Siding ripped off an adjacent house
- Pine trees uprooted
- Several hardwood trees lost large limbs
The tornado had a maximum path width of just 50 yards, making it a brief but damaging storm.
