GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) — The Genesee County Jail’s educational program will be expanding to the fifth floor.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said a ribbon cutting will be held for IGNITE University’s expansion on Friday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m.

IGNITE aims to break the cycles of incarceration through education, career preparation, and personal transformation, the sheriff’s office said. Expanding to the fifth floor will allow more participants, helping to further reduce recidivism and build the skills necessary for successful re-entry into the community.

The ribbon cutting will feature a performance by Randy Houser, a country singer and songwriter, to celebrate the continued growth and success of the IGNITE program. He is also performing at the FIM Capitol Theatre that night.
