Ohio diver dies near Cedarville shipwreck in Lake Huron

CHEBOYGAN, Mich. (NEWS 10) -A 62-year-old man from Sylvania, Ohio, died during a recreational dive near the Cedarville shipwreck site in northern Lake Huron on Thursday morning officials said Friday night.

The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 29.

The diver, described as “experienced,” was participating in a scheduled dive at the wreck site when he experienced an “emergency”.

Several other experienced divers who accompanied him immediately began lifesaving efforts and assisted emergency responders upon returning to the surface.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators do not believe diving equipment malfunction or charter service operations were factors in the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
