Saginaw ISD hosts open house at Hartley
SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - The Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD) hosted an open house and touch-a-truck event on Friday, Oct. 11.
Families could go to the Hartley Outdoor Education Center in St. Charles for free.
The Saginaw ISD said its goal Friday was to show the outdoor experiences and programs available to students and visitors.
“A lot of folks, the last time they’ve been at Hartley was maybe when they were in fourth or fifth grade, so a lot of the parents are now bringing their kids here, so that just speaks to the legacy and longevity of Hartley. And so they can kind of come back as an alumni and also bring their kids, so that’s the experience we’re really looking forward to today,” said Coty Kuschinsky, chief of staff at Saginaw ISD.
Outside, police officers and firefighters were happy to let children check out the vehicles they use to keep the community safe.
“It’s a good chance for the kids to get out that don’t necessarily get to have that interaction with us. So, they get that face-to-face and they get more used to us, like I said. And then, the hope is that as they get older and if something happens and they need to talk to us, they won’t be so afraid to come talk to us so they’ve already known us,” said St. Charles Police Chief Jason Oliver.
The Saginaw ISD said Hartley will celebrate its 50th year of operations next year.
