Here are five things you need to know for Thursday.
- Gov. Whitmer delivered her final State of the State address Wednesday night, with a focus on over 26,000 miles of Michigan roads fixed, new limits on medical debt, and plans to tackle the housing crisis through affordable housing tax credits and easier zoning rules.
- Corunna Public Schools is planning a candlelight vigil at the high school tonight at 7 p.m. in support of Trenton Massey’s family. The Corunna grad and Northern Michigan University student went missing in Marquette early Sunday. He was last seen on surveillance footage, walking onto the ice of Lake Superior. Investigators say they have suspended the search for Massey and will only resume it with new evidence.
- Former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, is scheduled to provide a deposition today as part of the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing investigation into convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. She’ll be interviewed on camera, near her New York home. Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to do the same tomorrow. Both agreed after the republican-led house moved toward a vote to hold them in contempt of Congress.
- Sentencing has been delayed for Mack Davis of Owosso who was plotting a mass shooting. His plans were found during a search of his home in the Summer of 2024. He later pleaded guilty to committing a hate crime by attempting to carry out a mass killing. The judge postponed sentencing for 30 days to fully consider the decision.
- A Mid-Michigan preschool is gaining state recognition for rethinking what early learning can look like. Jerome STEM Preschool has added coding concepts to the daily routine.
