BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) - Students at Bay City Central are sharing a sneak peek of a show about to hit the stage.

They are about to bring the musical, Little Shop of Horrors to life, now a week away from opening night.

“It’s been hectic,” said Jared Kaufman, the theater director. “I think these last two weeks to get everything put together and all of the pieces to fall into place.”

Ceci Beson, a student choreographer with the show, says she has enjoyed being on both sides of the curtain on set.

“It’s a lot of community, everybody working together to make something come together,” Beson said. “I think without everyone working together, we wouldn’t have such great shows.”

Kaufman said the school’s version of the show will be a little different, leaning into the darkness of the story.

“We’re kind of approaching it from the idea that Seymour is imagining that this plant has come to life, and is making him do all these things,” Kaufman said. “So it’s a little bit of a different interpretation than people might be used to.”

Ambria LaBean, a senior involved with the production playing Audrey, has enjoyed putting her own spin on the character.

“Creating my own character has been fun and a good experience,” LaBean said.

Deacon Hayward, a senior who plays Seymour, is excited to follow in the footsteps of Rick Moranis who plays the character in the movie.

“We’ve been practicing every day,” Hayward said. “It’s such a fun time.”

Audiences can catch the musical on stage at the George C. Charles Auditorium on April 16, 17 and 18 at 7:00 p.m. and April 19 at 2:00 p.m.
