Here are five things you need to know for Wednesday.
- The Flint City Council is holding a special meeting today. Members will consider a resolution to reallocate a million dollars of American Rescue Plan Act funds to offset a rate increase by the Great Lakes Water Authority in order for customers’ monthly bills to stay the same. Members will also consider a collective bargaining agreement for Flint Police. The special meeting is expected to start at 5 p.m.
- City leaders in Saginaw want your opinion on the future of Ojibway Island. The island has been closed to cars and trucks for five years, but open to pedestrians. The city invites residents to fill out a survey about how to best use the park. The results will help guide decisions about access, safety and more. You can find a link to the survey here.
- The Four Lakes Task Force is hosting another informational meeting as it works to restore the area in Midland and Gladwin counties impacted by the 2020 dam failures and flooding. The team will provide updates on dam construction, the lakes, and upcoming training sessions for stabilizing shorelines. That meeting is this evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. To register for the meeting, click here.
- The Michigan Department of Transportation will be hosting an open house today to go over upcoming road work along the major routes between U.S. 10 and M-20 in Midland. This month begins phase two of that $27 million dollar project. Phase one began last August and included burying utilities along Buttles Street, which will be rebuilt during phase three in 2027. Today’s open house is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on West Ellsworth Street.
- A local park is getting ready for a grand opening today. You’re invited to check out the newly renovated Mary Crapo park on Miller Road in Swartz Creek today. Guests will get to tour the baseball fields while enjoying complimentary hot chocolate and donuts. That event starts at 4 p.m.
