Fire destroys family home in Freeland

A fire that destroyed a Freeland home is under investigation.

FREELAND, Mich. (WNEM) - A fire that destroyed a Freeland home is under investigation.

Saturday, Jan. 31. the Tittabawassee Fire Chief tells TV5 they received a call around 5 p.m. for a fire on Vasold Road.

Fire Chief Philip Shaver said a passerby alerted the homeowners to the fire that started in the attached garage. Two cars were inside the garage.

Shaver said the fire spread rapidly through the home.

When crews arrived, flames were showing through the roof of the home.

The chief tells TV5 a family was at home at the time of the fire, and they were able to get out of the house safely with no injuries.

Shaver said the home is a total loss.
