New push to pass version of ‘Messiah’s Law’
LANSING, Mich. (WNEM) - There is a new push to pass another version of what would be known as ‘Messiah’s Law.’
HB 5746 was introduced on Wednesday, March 18 and referred to the Committee on Government Operations. It would change laws for targeted shootings at cars, trucks, and penalties would be harsher if a child were among the victims.
The law is named after Messiah Williams, a Flint 3-year-old who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2020.

The legislation was first introduced in 2021 to increase penalties for those convicted of drive-by shootings, and sentence felons to life without the possibility of parole.
